Hello Rewriters!
The next re/re/rewrite involves no writing prior to our meeting. We’ll meet and write together, live on January 29! Working in a single document we’ll generate a collaborative piece.
Screenwriter and filmmaker Mary Sweeney teaches a class at USC titled “Dreams, the Brain and Storytelling” and she includes the following exercise early on in the semester:
Choose an image at random, or have someone choose one for you. View the image for one minute. You only have one minute, so look hard, then hide the image and begin writing ideas about it. After you’ve formulated a few thoughts, write a three-five-page scene based on the image over the course of a week.
We’ll borrow this prompt for our next re/re/rewrite gathering. Instead of taking a week, we’ll take a few minutes, and we’ll mix and match sentences and paragraphs with each other.
We invite you to join us! Bring along a photograph or two to share, and be ready for an easygoing, often humorous, collaborative writing experience.
